About the flag

It is a fairily typical portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a white and green quartered (town rank) background. Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário do Governo : I Série in 1938.06.07.

The arms are Sable a fortified tower masoned and open and litten of the Same overgrown by a grape vine issuant from the dexter and trunked Proper and leafed Vert and fruited Purple. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DA VIDIGUEIRA".

The arms are partly canting for "vidigueira" (which has no common meaning in modern Portuguese) is vaguely cognate with grape vine.

Presentation of Vidigueira

Vidigueira municipality had 6188 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of 4 communes covering 314,20 km². It is part of Beja District, traditional province and NUTS III Baixo Alentejo, and 1999 ref. adm. region and C.C.R. / NUTS II Alentejo.
